About

About Crowley Lodge No. 6901

A friendly and welcoming Craft Lodge in Dunston since 1949.

Our Lodge

Crowley Lodge is a warm and sociable Craft (Blue) Lodge in the Province of Durham. Our members come from different backgrounds — some are still working, others are enjoying retirement — and we share a genuine enjoyment of Masonic tradition and fellowship. The third Friday of each month is the heart of our diary: a chance to meet in the Lodge Room and afterwards over dinner.

We take our name from Sir Ambrose Crowley, a celebrated local industrialist of the late 17th and early 18th centuries whose enterprise and care for his workforce left a lasting mark on the North East.

What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest fraternal organisations. It brings together men who believe in integrity, friendship, respect, and service to others. Members come from every walk of life and meet as equals.

Integrity

Doing the right thing, being honest and dependable.

Friendship

Building lasting bonds across backgrounds.

Respect

Valuing others and treating people with dignity.

Service

Supporting others through charity and community work.

The three degrees (overview)

Craft Freemasonry is experienced in three stages, often called degrees. In public terms, they represent a journey of learning and growth:

  • Entered Apprentice: An introduction to Freemasonry's core principles.
  • Fellowcraft: A stage of learning, improvement, and development.
  • Master Mason: The third degree, encouraging purpose, responsibility, and service.

This is a public overview only — no ritual or secret content is included on this website.
